PRESCOD SIGNS UP TO WORLD-CLASS MULLER INDOOR GRAND PRIX BIRMINGHAM ALONGSIDE FELLOW STARS

  • Britain’s 9.94 100m man and European silver medalist Reece Prescod to test himself against world’s best in rare indoor outing
  • Prescod joined by world silver medalist SU Bingtian and British stars CJ Ujah and Richard Kilty in men’s 60m field
  • Tickets are now sold out for the world’s number one ranked indoor grand prix

Sprint powerhouse Reece Prescod (coach: Jonas Dodoo, club: Enfield & Haringey) will be one of several star-names set to line up in the men’s 60m at the now sold-out Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham on Saturday 16 February at Arena Birmingham.

In racing at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham, Prescod will hope to continue the rich vein of form he has enjoyed in the city with back to back British titles and a 100m personal best run of 9.94 seconds at last summer’s Muller Grand Prix Birmingham.

A rare sight on the indoor circuit having raced just five times indoors over the last five years, the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham will serve as Prescod’s first-ever outing at the Arena Birmingham on its notoriously quick track for sprinting.

Present alongside the European silver medallist will be reigning World and European 4x100m champion CJ Ujah (Jonas Dodoo, Enfield & Haringey), world indoor silver medal holder SU Bingtian, and the reigning two-time European Indoor champion Richard Kilty (Benke Blomkvist, Middlesbrough), with the quartet currently confirmed for the event holding an impressive 11 major international medals between them.

With the likes of Laura Muir, Andrew Pozzi and Katerina Stefanidi also already confirmed among other global stars, the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham is a meeting that will once again feature the very best athletes in the world, with the news that the meeting has now sold out of tickets sure to make for an electric atmosphere at Arena Birmingham.

World finalist and European silver medalist, Reece Prescod said:

“I’ve never actually done a 60m in Birmingham so it will be my first time racing there – it’s exciting, and hearing that the meet is sold out I’m expecting it to be a crazy atmosphere for all of us athletes, especially the Brits.”

“I know that where the 100m is concerned I have one of the best finishes in the world at the moment, but equally my start can be another massive strength with work. Racing over 60m at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham against some of the top guys is only going to contribute towards that getting stronger and stronger, so it’s a big test that I’m looking forward to.”

On being back in the city where he has enjoyed competing so much, Prescod added:

“When it comes to competing outdoors, Birmingham is my favourite place to race at because I’ve won the outdoor national championships for the last two years, so hopefully I can put down a quick time next month and carry on that record of running well in the city.”

British Athletics’ Major Events Director, Cherry Alexander said:

“We know that we put together the best fields in the world for our meets and the men’s 60m field for next month’s meet really is no different. We know that our British athletes thrive on competing in front a packed home crowd, so it will be brilliant entertainment to see who can hold their nerve on the day.”

“We’re proud of the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham’s status as the world’s best indoor meeting and are delighted to now be looking at a sold-out meeting with a month to go. With the athletes we have on board it’s set to be another amazing event in Birmingham, and those who were fortunate enough to secure tickets are set for a great day of world-class athletics.”
