PBs FOR PARA ATHLETICS WORLD CHAMPIONS
There were some stunning early season results for World Para Athletics gold medallists Olivia Breen (coach: Aston Moore) and Sophie Hahn (Joe McDonnell) at the Loughborough open meeting today.
Breen, who jumped a then lifetime best of 4.81m to win the world T38 long jump title last year, improved that mark in her first long jump of the season. At the home of her training base, she leaped 4.85m, a staggering improvement after a solid winter block of training with her coach Aston Moore. It all bodes well for the upcoming Commonwealth Games when Breen will get a chance to go for gold for Wales.
The 21 year-old, who had already lowered her 60m PB twice so far in 2018, made it three out of three earlier in the day. 8.39 was the new mark for Breen, who cut 0.06 seconds from her previous best, set in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago.
Elsewhere, multiple global medallist Sophie Hahn enjoyed a marvellous start to the 2018, picking up where she left off last year. She posted a time of 8.09 over 60m, shaving 0.03 seconds off her previous best which came in 2016. With a debut at the Commonwealth Games coming up for Team England in April, this was an encouraging opener for Hahn.
