Reigning women’s Olympic, World and European pole vault champion Katerina Stefanidi (GRE) will be joined by 2012 Olympic champion and the current world leader Jenn Suhr (USA) in heading up a stacked pole vault field for the Muller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday 18 August.

Stefanidi has won the Diamond League in the women’s pole vault three years in a row now, with an impressive record elsewhere. In outdoor championships, she is undefeated since 2015 and broke the Greek national record in London at the 2017 World Championships on her way to gold.

Heading the standings for 2019, 2012 Olympic champion and five-time global medallist Jenn Suhr heads to Birmingham full of confidence having recently made the USA team for what will be her sixth world championships in Doha. Suhr cleared a monster4.91m back in March of this year to top the 2019 standings, and is also the world indoor record holder with 5.03m, set in 2016.

Among the rest of the field, Eliza McCartney (NZL) is one of many talented athletes in the field who could run her the pair close in Birmingham. The Kiwi athlete is third on the all-time-list, clearing 4.94m last year, notably winning bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games at the age of 19.

Joining them is home favourite and European bronze medallist Holly Bradshaw (coach: Scott Simpson, club: Blackburn) who will look to build on her impressive performance at the Muller Anniversary Games last month where she finished third.

The aforementioned trio, as well as Katie Nageotte (USA), Alysha Newman (CAN) and Angelica Bengtsson (SWE), all sit inside the top ten in the world this year, making the women’s pole vault one of the strongest events ahead of the Muller Grand Prix Birmingham at the Alexander Stadium.

Completing the field, and no strangers to global podiums themselves, are 2015 world champion Yarisley Silva (CUB) and Robeilys Peinado (VEN), with the two especially familiar to one another having both won bronze at London 2017’s world championships.
