MANNHEIM BECKONS FOR THE GB & NI JUNIOR TEAM
A team of Great Britain and Northern Ireland junior athletes will travel to Germany this weekend for the Mannheim International (24-25 June).
The Mannheim International is one of the highest-level junior competitions outside of the World or European U20 Championships each year, providing opportunities to a number of pathway athletes, both individually and in the relays.
The women’s 4x100m relay team includes several GB & NI medallists from last year’s European U18 Championships as they step up to the U20 age-group. 100m gold and silver medallist Nia Wedderburn-Goodison (coach: Ryan Freckleton, club: Harrow) and Renee Regis (Tamunonengiye-Ofori Ossai, BFT Track Academy) are in the squad and will also race in the 100m individual races. 200m champion Faith Akinbileje (John Blackie, Blackheath & Bromley) will also race in the relay and 200m.
Another European U18 champion, Cleo Agyepong (John Hillier, Blackheath & Bromley) is selected for the women’s shot put in Mannheim.
Charlie Carvell (Stewart Marshall, Telford), who ran a PB of 46.16 to win the England U20 title at the weekend, will race as part of the 4x400m relay team.
Team Leader, Laura Turner-Alleyne said, “This event is an important opportunity for our pathway athletes to gain valuable experience of international competition, in preparation for European Juniors and beyond. We are looking forward to watching them perform this weekend.”
