MANCHESTER SET FOR RECORD-BREAKING 2022 MÜLLER UK ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The stage is set in Manchester today for the first day of action at the Müller UK Athletics Championships Manchester including record-breaking entry numbers with more than 800 athletes accepting their invitations to compete at the event.

The event gets underway later today (Friday 24 June) at 14:00 with 45 UK titles on offer across the three days of action. With the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 just a few weeks away, this weekend’s event will be athletes’ last chance to book their place on the plane to America, while U20 3000m athletes will be looking to confirm places at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali this August.

The Müller UK Athletics Championships is the pinnacle competition of domestic athletics in the country, and hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators are expected to be at the Manchester Regional Arena this weekend. Saturday is close to a sell-out, however, there is still some availability across all three days which can be bought online HERE.

The Championships will contain some incredibly exciting events with a host of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s medallists from the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in attendance including Dina Asher-Smith, Holly Bradshaw, Hannah Cockroft, Sophie Hahn, Keely Hodgkinson, Josh Kerr and Laura Muir.

There will be a special guest presenting the women’s long jump medals at the Championships; 2015 world silver medallist, Shara Proctor, who announced her retirement from the sport this week.

Another special moment will take place on Sunday 26 June [13:25] when Vicki Barr, Perri Shakes Drayton, Lee McConnell, and Kim Bopanna (nee Wall) will receive their long-awaited 4x400m relay bronze medals from the 2010 World Athletics Indoor Championships, Doha. After a reallocation of medals, the team will receive a full medal presentation during Sunday’s schedule.

The Müller UK Athletics Championships Manchester will be streamed in full on the British Athletics website and will also be available on the BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer on Friday 24 June [from 15:55], Saturday 25 [from 13:20] and Sunday 26 [from 10:30].
