Global medallists seek final preparations at Newham Parallel Success meeting
A number of British athletes will fine-tune their preparations for the World Para Athletics Championships at one of the final events before they compete in the London Stadium, at the British Athletics Parallel Success meeting in Newham on Sunday.
Paralympic champions such as Georgie Hermitage (coach: Paul McGregor), Sophie Hahn (Joe McDonnell) and Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks) are among a host of para athletes competing in London in what should be an entertaining day of action.
Hermitage competes in the 100m, whilst Hahn takes on the 200m. Seven-time world champion Cockroft will face a trio of events in the 100m, 400m and 800m alongside triple Paralympic medallist Kare Adenegan (Job King) and the ever-improving Carly Tait (Banks).
Paralympic T42 200m bronze medallist Dave Henson (Roger Keller) will go in the open 100m heats, and fellow British para team members for the worlds later this month, Jordan Howe (Christian Malcolm), Zak Shaw (McDonnell) and Zak Skinner (David Hull) will also compete over the sprint distance. Double Paralympic and world medallist Maria Lyle (Ryan Freckleton) is one of many entrants for the open 200m in the afternoon.
After winning a bronze in the F32 club throw in Rio, Gemma Prescott (Mike Wood) takes on 2015 world bronze medallist Abbie Hunnisett (Anthony Hughes / Mark Hunnisett) in the event in London, whilst F51 athlete Kylie Grimes (Philip Peat) will be looking to get close to the 20m mark again, after a 19.87m throw in Stoke Mandeville last month.
